TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Electric Corp. is holding a state-of-the-art exhibition that fuses Paralympic sports and digital technology in the capital's Ginza district until Nov. 2.
The "Iro x Iro Stadium" exhibition, inspired by Paralympic sports, was planned by Mitsubishi Electric in a bid to help the general public deepen their understanding of an inclusive society, and is taking place at the company's "METoA Ginza" event space. Visitors can experience virtual sports on large displays that use digital technology.
The virtual sports are based on archery, table tennis, blind soccer and sitting volleyball. They were developed so that players, regardless of their age or whether they have a disability or not, can enjoy the games, such as returning a ball on a screen by just moving their head and scoring a virtual shot by moving to a spot above which they hear a sound from.
Tetsuya Hirayama of the company's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics promotion division said, "Every person's character is different We hope people will think about a society where everyone can flourish while finding their own 'color.'"
