Macron slammed over vaccine passports for hospital visits –'violation of Hippocratic oath'

French President Emmanuel Macron has faced strong pushback against the tightening of Coronavirus restrictions. The new public health laws are reported to include making proof of vaccination a necessity in order to visit a hospital in France. Politics commentators in Australia have reacted with alarm at the direction Macron is taking healthcare in France amid concern the vaccine passport measures could violate medical ethics.

Sky News Australia host James Morrow said: "That is just a complete violation of the Hippocratic oath.

"I think that any doctor that obeyed that sort of mandate would be in absolute violation of their own ethics as a doctor.

"It doesn't matter when somebody comes into the ER on a gurney if they are some horrible person, a neo-nazi skinhead, whatever, a child molester.

"Any sort of evil person, they still get treatment.

"That is the point of our medical system and that is the way it has been for centuries."

France saw the introduction of restrictions earlier this week prompting thousands to take to the streets this weekend in huge anti-Macron demonstrations.

Rallies were held in dozens of towns and cities across France on Saturday.

Macron's health pass decree will mean citizens are required to show the pass to visit cinemas, museums, libraries, and amusement parks that accommodate more than 50 people.

Macron's presidential rival and National Front leader Marine Le Pen has taken Twitter to express her opposition to the restrictions.

She penned: “Brutal and illegal! 50 people obviously cannot be considered a 'large gathering.'

"This government has no limits. #HealthPass.”

In a separate video posted online Ms Le Pen added: "To each of us, these measures appear to be disproportionate in principle, brutal in their implementation and frankly sometimes absurd.

"Thus, a positive person in isolation at home will have fewer rights than an Islamist terrorist, and it will be possible, for example, to take the tube, but not the train."

She continued: “We believe that vaccination should remain a personal choice which leaves everyone the right to assess the risk-benefit balance in relation to their own situation, because we are attached to the principle of free and informed consent, the basis of health policy.”

Ms Le Pen added: “The health pass can certainly be considered for the demonstrations of thousands of people, but to impose it in the acts of daily life is excessive and frankly unmanageable.

“It is above all important to restore confidence in public speech through truth, consistency and pragmatism.”
