Police had already shut the M6 to clear debris between junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) for north and central Birmingham and junction 7 for the Great Barr area of the city. However, the closure had to be extended last night because the woman got out of a car to walk along the roadside.

       In a photo released by West Midlands Police, the woman is seen walking dangerously close to vehicles on the motorway, one of the busiest in the UK.

       It's unclear exactly why she left her vehicle, reports Birmingham Live.

       Central Motorway Police Group tweeted: "For those stopped M6 J6-7, this was because we had to remove some debris that had fallen from a vehicle causing a risk to everyone.

       "However, thank this person for causing a longer delay by wandering off and stopping us safely reopening."

       Social media users shared their fury at the actions.
