Northern Ireland wildfires: Struggle to contain outbreaks in Belfast and County Fermanagh

       Crews are battling fires on Divis Mountain in Belfast and in the Tully Forest in the Lisnaskea area of County Fermanagh.Images of the Divis Mountain fire were shared on social media shortly after 10pm. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) told Belfast Live around 100 square metres were burning and that five appliances had been sent to put the fire out.

       The NIFRS spokesperson said: "We have five appliances on the scene - the reason for five is so that three can perform water relay and bring water to the fire.

       "Currently there is an area of around 100 square metres alight."

       In County Fermanagh, 78 miles away, ten fire crews have been at a scene of the gorse fire since 11am on Sunday morning.

       Two water tankers and one high volume pump were also dispatched to the fire.

       The NIFRS described the incident as "significant" and asked people to stay away from the area.

       A spokesperson also asked people to take extra care outdoors to prevent accidental fires from starting.

       The hot weather in the UK has sparked a number of wildfires across the nation.

       In Scotland, fire crews were called to Thurso in the Highlands on Sunday at 4pm to put out a fire.

       The fire was raging near the Golf Club, and sent plumes of thick black smoke towards the town.

       A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said the fire had spread to around half a mile.

       Ron Gunn shared a shocking photograph of smoke above the town, which has a population of around 8,000.

       He wrote: "This looks a bit serious."
