On Tuesday night, the President announced at least 17 civilians have died in the fires. The President released these devastating statistics as several more soldiers received injuries while battling the flames in the Kabylie region.

The Defence Ministry revealed 11 soldiers received burns fighting the fires with four seriously injured.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune tweeted that the soldiers were “martyrs”.

The soldiers have saved around 100 people from the fires in Kabyle.

The Kabyle region is 100 km (60 miles) east of the country's capital, Algiers, and has no water-dumping planes.

This is the latest region to be plagued with devastating wildfires.

The wildfires in Greece - roughly 1,000 miles away from Algeria - have spread uncontrollably and have killed two people with six areas put on high alert.

Firefighters are struggling to put out 154 blazes that are raging across the country.

Residents in the island of Evia are forced to flee their homes and evacuate the island by boat as the fires spread out of control.

More than 2,000 residents have now been evacuated from their homes and local officials are appealing for more help.
