In a severe warning, Thierry Breton hinted the supply of vaccines to the UK may be under threat if Britain does not back down over threats to act unilaterally over Brexit. Reminding Boris Johnson a substantial amount of vaccines are imported from the EU, the single market commissioner claimed the UK must comply with what has been signed. Amid the need for additional vaccines doses due to the Delta variant, Mr Breton claimed the UK needs the EU now more than ever.

He told French publication Le Figaro wrote: "The United Kingdom depends more than ever on Europe.

"We will be there. We were there for the vaccines but in compliance with the accords that have been signed and they must be complied with."

Mr Breton also warned the Trade and Cooperation Agreement is now under threat due to the Prime Minister's inability to "honour" the deal.

Amid serious progress over the issues seen in Northern Ireland, Mr Breton's comments have sparked anger in the EU.

Although the Northern Ireland protocol has caused severe issues to trade, the UK and EU had begun to resolve the ban on chilled meats.

Due to this, one official in Brussels hit out at Mr Breton, claiming the EU will not block vaccine supplies.

One added: "We are absolutely not threatening to block vaccines."

9.04am update: End to sausage wars?

Speaking today, Environment Secretary George Eustice claimed the EU and UK had made progress over the impending ban to chilled meats.

He told LBC: "I think we are getting some positive indications and it's always our view that it's better if we can reach agreement with the European Union on these things.

"It didn't make any sense to simply say that there's a ban on the sale of sausages to Northern Ireland, we're still in dialogue with the European Union about some longer-term solutions on the wider issues around export health certificates.

"While those are ongoing, I think it makes sense for them, just for a few more months, to leave the current arrangement we have in place."
