The toddler in question was taken to unqualified traditional healers instead of a hospital, and later died as a result of her injuries.

       Parents Darina and Ivan Gorov are being investigated for murder over the death of their daughter ？？Lesya.

       The events occurred in the Ukraine village of Grygorivka, and reports claim her parents decided against taking her to hospital in favour of treating their child with herbal remedies.

       Ukrainian police said the injuries occurred as a result of Darina, the child’s mother, failing to properly secure the pan of boiling water she intended to use to cook a chicken the family had slaughtered.

       As a result of the incident, Lesya had burns on the abdomen, back, and bottom after slipping and falling into the pan of boiling water.

       Rather than rushing the child to the hospital, Konotop Medical College student Darina, aged 18, took her daughter to Ukrainian healers who favour traditional and more natural remedies.

       The traditional healers administered natural ointments to her injuries, which did little to ease the suffering the two-year-old was experiencing.

       Five days after being burned, Lesya was taken to hospital by her grandmother who recognised the condition of the child and the severity of her injuries.

       The remedies used by the natural healers had had little effect, which raises questions on why trainee doctor Darina didn’t notice.

       A local report said those in her community “cannot understand why Lesya wasn't immediately taken to hospital and saved”.

       Another commented on the child’s mother saying: “She is a future doctor”.

       It is believed that the toddler was playing with her twin brother and four-year-old sister when the incident occured.

       The excruciating burns experienced by Lesya should have been assessed and treated by healthcare professionals.

       Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save Lesya who succumbed to her wounds and died on August 2, ten days after being admitted to hospital.

       The incident has led to her parents being investigated for pre-meditated murder. If convicted, the pair could face between seven and 15 years in jail.

       The investigation carried out by Ukraine police remains ongoing.

       NHS advice states that appropriate first aid must be used to treat burns or scalds as soon as possible, and that acting quickly can limit the amount of damage caused to the affected person.

       A source said. “The child died because she received proper treatment too late”.
