'Like a poker game!' IDS brutally slams scientists for 'not one right Covid prediction'

Speaking to talkRADIO on Wednesday, Sir Iain Duncan Smith slammed pandemic scientists for treating coronavirus case predictions like a game of "poker". He said how time and time again "not one prediction" by scientists on covid have been correct. IDS called for an end of such predictions by "doom and gloom" scientists like Professor Neil Ferguson from Imperial College London who have suggested the UK could hit "200,000 infections per day" by the summer. He went on to demand double jabbed Brits should not have to isolate out of "common sense".

Sir Iain slammed: “I never believed that the infection rate would rise anywhere near in line with professor Ferguson’s.

“He is rather like one of those reverse bellwethers, the moment he points in one direction I am certain it goes in the other!

"And that has happened every single time.”

The former Tory leader went on to express particular disdain for the behaviour of scientists throughout the pandemic for their predictions about covid cases, especially with some of the large case figures a number suggested the UK would hit.

IDS said slammed: “I do think there has been a group of scientists who simply spend their time rather like a poker game…

“Seeing each other and calling it and calling and calling it until they up and up and up their predictions!"

"Not one prediction by the way has been right by the scientists since they came in.

"They have all been up to nearly double what it has been and sometimes three and four times the kind of rates and deaths!

Sir Iain went on to say how it was "common sense" to allow people that have been double jabbed not to have to self-isolate.

Previously, Professor Neil Ferguson from Imperial College London and a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) said as many as 200,000 new cases could be reported a day.

The scientist told the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show it was “almost certain” new cases would hit 100,000 a day, with hospital admissions reaching 1,000 a day in the wake of the end of legal limits on July 19 'Freedom Day'.
