Covid vaccine: How to get free taxis, pizza and trips for getting jabbed amid expiry risk

Companies around the UK will soon offer credit and price reductions in a bid to boost vaccination rates. The NHS is facing increasing pressure to redistribute tens of thousands of coronavirus vaccine doses which are at risk of expiry within the next two weeks. But how can you receive incentives to get your jab?

A massive 170,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine are reportedly at risk of expiry within the next 14 days according to the Guardian.

The publication has warned the unpredictability of vaccine uptake in younger people means more doses are likely to go to waste.

The NHS is believed to have been able to redistribute 40,000 does so far, but there are still concerns many will go to waste.

The Government is now working with companies to devise new incentives to entice people to get the jab.

Young people will be offered discounted takeaways and car travel in a bid to encourage them to get their Covid jabs.

The Government announced the new voucher initiative after revealing just 68 percent of those aged 18 to 29 have had their first jab.

Comparatively, 88.6 percent of all UK adults have had one jab with more than 72.5 percent of UK adults now double-vaccinated.

Food delivery and ride-hailing firms including Uber, Bolt and Deliveroo are now offering incentives for young people to get vaccinated.

Cabinet ministers have said the number of vaccinations in young people could reach 80 percent with these free offers according to the Telegraph.

In addition, the move could reportedly lead to the need for vaccine passports for venues such as nightclubs.

Downing Street has ruled out vaccine passports for students seeking to return to university.

Ministers want to promote the new scheme at a “major flagship event” for young people in the next few weeks, when they will be offered a credit voucher.

Uber has agreed to offer free rides to those who get vaccinated.

In addition, Deliveroo is offering discounts on thousands of takeaway meals from restaurants or discounts on shopping bills at Waitrose, Morrisons and Aldi.

Restaurant chain Pizza Pilgrims is offering discounts on meals, while ride-hailing app Bolt is to offer "free ride credits" to vaccination centres.

The scheme is likely to expand to include free tickets to cinema chains and drinks at coffee shops within weeks.

These enticements are directed at younger adults, but will be available for all adults of any age as yet unvaccinated.

The scheme is thought likely to create a backlash among others who have already had their jabs and were not rewarded with such a prize.

It is thought the scheme could encourage reluctant groups to get vaccinated.

One Whitehall source told the Telegraph: “This is just the start of it, we are expecting a number of other companies to get involved. We are looking to move quickly on this.”

The discount is predicted to be worth around £10 and available either via a voucher or a discount code.

The codes will be accessible on mobile phones when one can prove they have received their first jab.

The details of the scheme are still being finalised, but people are believed to be able to submit a selfie of themselves at a vaccine centre in order to get this discount.

Insiders have been keen to stress the initiative will involve no public money, but instead will be funded by the companies themselves.
