The Duchess of Cambridge has taken inspiration from the Queen when it comes to developing "her own style of duty and diplomacy", royal commentators have claimed. Kate is said to have "followed [the monarch's] example" to help "silence critics". Channel 5 documentary, 'Kate: Our Queen in Waiting', explored how the future queen has grown since joining the monarchy.

Narrator David Riley told viewers: "Since marrying into the Royal Family, Kate has taken the opportunity to study senior royals up close.

"This is especially true when it comes to the Queen.

"Following her example has allowed Kate to lay the foundations for her own style of duty and diplomacy.

"She has won plaudits and silenced critics."

Daily Mirror Royal Editor Russell Myers added: "I think quite early on she realised this could be a job for life where she could make real change to people's lives.

"This is something that will have generational change.

"That notion of it being a marathon and not a sprint is something that she has really grasped.

"It will really stand her in fantastic stead for the future."

The documentary went on to describe how the Duchess has "gradually and quietly taken the lead".

This includes her setting up her own charitable initiatives.

Royal journalist Victoria Murphy spoke about the future queen "convening many experts".

She told Channel 5: "She's brought so many different people together from a high level.

"So she's gained a lot of understanding and a lot of credibility."

Mail on Sunday Royal Editor Emily Andrews pointed out that it had been Kate's idea to set up Heads Together.

This was a mental health initiative that she, Prince William, and Prince Harry launched.

Ms Andrews said: "We all assumed it was William or Harry's idea."
