YONAGO, Tottori -- One of the two West Japan Railway Co. trains wrapped in images from popular manga and anime series "Detective Conan" that run mainly on Tottori Prefecture's JR Sanin Line has undergone a redesign.
The exteriors and interiors of the double-carriage train, which was introduced in 2015 and runs mainly between Tottori and Yonago stations on the JR Sanin Line, feature characters from Tottori-native Gosho Aoyama's manga also known as "Case Closed." Among them are protagonist Conan Edogawa, fellow detective Kogoro Mori, and a group of young detectives who are also Conan's classmates.
The Tottori Prefectural Government covered the 12-million-yen (about $108,000) renovations.
Yoshiyuki Nomura, deputy head of the prefectural government's manga kingdom secretariat, said, "We want to encourage visits from tourists from other prefectures and countries after the coronavirus pandemic."
