Armed police rush to machete attack in Bristol – road sealed off as public told stay away

       One man has been reportedly detained in Bristol after a "weapon was seen" following reports of a machete attack.

       Police officers attended the scene on Bell Hill Road in St George on Tuesday afternoon with around eight police vehicles at the scene.

       Officers were responding to reports that two men had been fighting in the street and that one man used a machete during the incident.

       The road was closed off at around 1:30pm to "ensure the safety of the public", the police have said.

       Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now confirmed that the police presence was triggered by "a weapon being seen".

       One man has been detained by officers following the incident, with a second man being found in nearby Kensington Road with injuries that did not require ambulance attention, the force has confirmed.

       Officers are now calling for any members of the public who have witnessed the incident, have dashcam footage, or any information regarding the disorder.

       The police statement said: "Police have detained a man following a report of a fight between two people in Bell Hill Road, St George, Bristol.

       "A witness called at 12.17pm on Tuesday, August 10 to report two men fighting in the street and said one man had struck the other with a machete.

       "The road was closed as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public.

       "As a weapon had been seen, specially-trained armed police officers were involved in the response.

       "A man was detained in Bell Hill Road at 1.30pm and the road reopened at 1.38pm. A second man was found in nearby Kensington Road with an injury which did not require an ambulance

       "Enquiries continue and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the initial incident or who may have dashcam or other footage which could help their investigation.
