Camilla has become the patron of Horseback UK, a Scottish charity born to support service personnel and veterans suffering from life-changing injuries and PTSD. In her new role, the Duchess will help raise awareness on the work the organisation has been carrying out for decades and how horses can support people during their healing path.

This new patronage will bring together the Duchess' work with the veteran community and her love for horses.

Horseback UK co-founder Emma Hutchison said: "We are incredibly grateful to The Duchess of Cornwall for accepting the invitation to become our Patron.

"As a keen equestrian herself, HRH understands how horses can help have a positive impact on our well-being and recovery."

The organisation provides both educational tools and an emotional bond with horses to people struggling with their wellbeing.

Since 2009, it has been running its military courses to empower serving and former military personnel suffering from both physical and mental life-changing injuries.

Following the success of its military courses, Horseback later extended its remit to focus on the wider community, including students.

Using horsemanship and outdoor activities, the charity delivers personal development programmes that encourage participants to acquire new coping strategies and life skills, to build lasting resilience and leave with an official SQA qualification.

Horseback UK has also developed a new Youth Development Programme in collaboration with Prince Charles's foundation, the Prince's Trust.

Camilla got to know Horseback UK in 2019, when she paid a visit to the charity while visiting Scotland.

On that occasion, she had the chance to admire an ex-racehorse named Brook and miniature horses Pinky and Patrick.

Speaking to the gathered veterans, mentors and young people, the Duchess of Cornwall said: "I'm so impressed with all that you do here.

"Everybody working together as a team, and you get no better team than people working together with horses."

Before leaving the centre, the Duchess told staff: "Now I know where you are, I'll be back."

Camilla is involved with several military and veteran associations - including the Chelsea Pensioners, whom she last visited one year ago.

Moreover, Camilla loves horse racing and owns with Prince Charles a few racing horses.

Last month, the Duchess attended Royal Ascot, during which she celebrated the Queen's passion for horses.

But, in an interview with ITV, she also spoke about her own involvement with racing.

She said: "There’s nothing to describe the excitement of winning.

"It’s the most exciting thing in the world.

"I’ve got a couple in training at the moment."

The Queen's racing manager also paid tribute to Camilla's love for horse racing, saying she is "absolutely besotted" by the sport.

He told BBC Radio 4: "It has been a slow burn. Prince Charles has always followed it, but it has been his mother’s interest, so it has been at arm’s length.

"He owns a few horses himself, in partnership with the Duchess of Cornwall.

"She is absolutely besotted by racing, so it is wonderful that they have opted to go for two days, and start to really focus on the breeding side of things."
