Prince Harry and William 'shared glass of champagne' after Diana statue unveiling

It was the first time the pair had met in public since Prince Philip’s funeral in April - and seen by many as an ideal opportunity to heal their reported rift. The two Princes put their differences aside during the ceremony to honour their mother’s memory.

They shared jokes and laughed together and were seen smiling as they officially unveiled the statue.

The reunion was short-lived as the Duke of Sussex, 36, was seen driving out of Kensington Palace after just 20 minutes.

But, according to The Sun, they shared a glass of champagne after the event.

Harry is believed to have been seen heading towards Heathrow Airport on Friday to return to the States - one day after the ceremony.

However, his travel plans have not officially been confirmed.

He welcomed second child Lilibet with wife Meghan Markle at the beginning of June.

With Prince Harry’s speedy getaway and the Queen’s Scotland trip concluding on Thursday, it is suspected Her Majesty missed the chance to see her grandson before his return to California.

The Queen travels to Scotland every year for Royal week and this year it overlapped the Duke’s visit.

This was Her Majesty’s first visit to Scotland since the death of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Royal fans were hopeful that Harry would delay his return to the US.

Prince Harry and Prince William made a joint statement about the statue honouring their mother: “Today, on what would have been our mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.

"Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy."

The pair commissioned the statue in 2017. They worked collaboratively on the design and the statement released about their mother.

The bronze sculpture for the Princess of Wales was officially unveiled by the brothers on Thursday, marking what would’ve been the Princess’ 60th birthday.

Only 14 guests attended the private unveiling on July 1, with Kensington Palace calling it a “small event and a very personal moment for the family”.

Princess Diana’s siblings attended, but Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were not present.
