Broadcaster and women's rights activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu told ITV that Meghan Markle's departure from the Royal Family was a missed opportunity for the institution. The royal commentator also hailed the Duchess of Sussex as an incredibly powerful woman.

       Dr Shola told ITV documentary 'Harry and William: What went wrong?': "This is a missed opportunity.

       "It is such a missed opportunity, my goodness.

       "How can anybody not see the incredibly powerful, independent, badass woman that Meghan Markle is?

       "And not see that as an incredible opportunity for the Royal Family to be relevant in the 21st century."

       Last week the Royal Family was warned that they face a "big challenge" as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set up an "alternative branch" of the monarchy.

       Robert Lacey told Australia's Today programme that Prince Harry's resentment for being cast in the role of "dirty rascal" by the Royal Family remains to this day.

       The royal commentator added that the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan Markle will remain an ongoing challenge for the monarchy.

       Mr Lacey said: "I mean right from the beginning there was rivalry, age of four Harry once said to the nanny 'why do I have to behave properly I'm not going to be king?'

       "These kids have been stereotyped from an early age.

       "Harry was always the dirty rascal with William the king of the castle, William could do no wrong.

       "And that resentment festers and it festers to the present day.

       "They've decided as you know to start a new life in California and that's a new challenge for the British Royal Family to have an alternative branch as it were.

       "In 1936 King Edward VIII went into abdication, published his memoirs and they said nothing else.

       "Well, Harry and Meghan have a lot to say and that's an ongoing challenge for William and the rest of the Royal Family in Britain."

       Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married in May 2018.

       The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from the Royal Family in March 2020.
