The Queen hit a "big pandemic milestone" with her recent country visit, according to royal commentators. The monarch had been undertaking visits across Scotland as part of her annual 'Holyrood Week' tradition. Royally Obsessed podcast host Roberta Fiorito pointed out that it was a "first" since Prince Philip's passing.

She told listeners: "This has been a big pandemic milestone in a lot of ways.

"Holyrood Week was cancelled last year.

"This year it's been done in a limited capacity.

"She couldn't have the garden party with 1000 guests that she typically hosts."

Ms Fiorito continued: "But the Queen was back, William was by her side at the beginning of the week.

"Princess Anne joined Wednesday and Thursday.

"But this was the Queen's first visit to Scotland since the death of Prince Philip.

"So it was a milestone moment for her in a lot of ways."

Royal Week, or 'Holyrood Week', takes place each summer.

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family carry out visits across Scotland celebrating Scottish culture, achievement and communities.

This year, Prince William and Princess Anne accompanied the monarch.

At the start of July, the Queen received Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

It is the first time the monarch has seen Ms Sturgeon in person since the beginning of the pandemic in the UK.

Scotland is also known to be a special getaway for the royals, including their holiday home, Balmoral.

The Duke of Edinburgh was known to have enjoyed visiting the country.

He passed away at the age of 99 in April this year.
