Camilla stuns royal experts with remarkable change of approach to Royal Family duties

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall has gone a long way since officially joining the Royal Family 16 years ago, royal commentator Angela Levin said. Ms Levin noted the Duchess of Cornwall had gone through a remarkable recalibration of priorities and has become a "non-stop" worker in her capacity as senior royal. Speaking to True Royalty's The Royal Beat, the biographer said: "I think she's becoming increasingly admired by people for her hard work.

"The last few weeks have been non-stop and here is a woman who once said, when she first joined the Royal Family, 'I've got a hair appointment on Monday, I won't be able to do anything.'

"And now she's working day in, day out."

Sunday Times' royal commentator Roya Nikkhah said Camilla had slowly revolutionised her public image and began to win over supporters as a key member of the Royal Family with her unwavering support to Prince Charles and the Queen.

Ms Nikkhah said: "In the last 10 years the public has seen how much happier she has made The Prince of Wales and also the really punchy causes she has put her name to and followed [such as] sexual violence, domestic abuse, and children’s literacy.

"She cares about some really important things, and I think people have slowly seen her less as the ‘evil, cruel mistress-in-waiting’ and more for the woman she is which is someone who loves the Prince of Wales and is a great companion for him.”

The Duchess of Cornwall initially struggled with her PR due to the role she played in the breakdown of the marriage of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.

In her bombshell interview with Panorama in 1995, the Princess of Wales stunned the world as she admitted "there were three of us in this marriage."

The tragic death of Diana in 1997 further exacerbated the Duchess' complicated relationship with the British public.

Prince Charles enrolled the help of media director Mark Bollan in a bid to change Camilla's image to ensure she would be accepted as his consort when he ascended the throne.

According to royal author Tom Bower, the well-connected Mr Bolland persuaded Charles and the then-Mrs Parker Bowles to embark on a long-term strategy.

His aim was to gain a greater public understanding of their roles and relationship.

As the couple's popularity slowly rose, Charles and Camilla were allowed to lead a more public life culminating with their first public joint appearance at a birthday party in 1999.

The strategy increasingly paid off, allowing the Prince of Wales to announce his engagement to Camilla in early 2005 and to tie the knot in a civil ceremony in Windsor.

The Queen did not attend the ceremony as the Church of England she heads did not, at the time, allow the remarriage of divorced people but Her Majesty did organise a service of prayer at Windsor's St George's Chapel in their honour.

The Duchess of Cornwall has taken on an increasing number of duties over the years and has continued to work with charities focussed on promoting literacy and tackling violence against women.
