‘Poor Queen!’ Prince Harry memoir another blow for Royal Family after Megxit rift

Prince Harry has been criticised for leaving the Queen and his royal relatives in the dark over his latest book deal announcement, with one Aussie TV host saying 'We don't like it". The Duke of Sussex announced yesterday that he would be publishing his "accurate and wholly truthful" memoirs through Penguin Random House in 2022.

Today Show hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon discussed the announcement with Allison saying, "I don't think there's anything else to say, the poor Queen! And to not give them the heads up!"

Co-host Karl said, "I agree with Allison, the poor Queen. It just goes on and on for her. Awful, we don't like it."

Entertainment reporter Sam Rubin said, "It continues to surprise me, this was the case for the Oprah interview as well."

Speaking of the couple's popularity in the US, he said, "I would think this would be more of a fascination in the UK, more of a fascination in the Commonwealth, but people here - at least if you go by the media reaction - are apparently interested."

"Maybe they're being embraced now because of their residency here in California, maybe they're being embraced as Americans too."

"We'll see when this book comes out where this book sells, but the lead story right now is that he's decided to write a memoir."

Prince Harry's global deal for his 'literary memoir' reportedly caught the Royal Family off-guard, as the Prince had not informed them of his decision to sign a book deal.

In a statement, the Duke of Sussex said "I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become."

"I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think."

The memoir is expected to cover the Duke's childhood and experiences as a working royal, as well as his military career and time in Afghanistan.

Publishers at Penguin Random House said the "intimate and heartfelt memoir" would be published in late 2022 with all proceeds going to charity.

Editions of the book will be available in print and digital forms with an audio book also made available.

Whilst details of the deal have not been made public, it is estimated that the Prince received a $20million advance in US dollars.

Since leaving the Royal Family in 2020, Prince Harry has conducted a number of interviews where he has criticised his family and the British monarchy.

His and Meghan's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey caused a PR disaster for Buckingham Palace, after they revealed that a member of the family had made a racist remark and their mental health was ignored by Palace officials and family members.

Relations between the Duke of Sussex and the Royal Family remain tense, although William and Harry displayed a united front in the unveiling ceremony of Diana's statue on July 1.
