Fred West horror: New evidence points to 20 'forgotten' victims on farm sites

The new evidence which has emerged has prompted fresh calls for these fields to be dug up in search for the victims. Fred and Rose West are infamous for the brutal murder of at least 12 women and girls in their “House of Horrors”.

But the fresh evidence now suggests that this number could be far more than initially thought.

A documentary into the murders by the demon couple was recently launched on ITV and has been called ‘Fred and Rose West: Reopened’.

The documentary gives an insight into the case itself, as well as investigators exploring potential new graves of victims, with the use of thermal images and cadaver dogs.

One of these new potential graves of victims is a farm Fred West previously said he used as a burial site.

But the investigators have pinpointed the first two locations of interest as being located in Fingerpost Field near Much Marcle, Herefordshire.

This location is also where West buried his first known victim, 18-year-old Annie McFall.

It has been reported by the Mirror that a number of dogs who are trained to identify decomposed flesh had alerted the investigators to the site, leading to fresh calls for the location to be excavated.

DCI Colin Sutton, the man who has led the ITV documentary team into the notorious serial killer, has said: “The handler is of the view that we should excavate the sites as soon as possible and I am absolutely on board with that.

“It is a really significant find and a significant piece of work from the cadaver dogs.

"The indications I saw the dog make were so very strong.”

Another location that had been identified is a derelict farm site in West Gloucestershire, and has been identified as a potential location used as a mass grave by Fred and Rose West.

The brand new revelations have only recently come to light following the release of a statement by Fred West’s appointed "appropriate adult", which has been made public for the first time.

West’s "appropriate adult", Janet Leach, referred to claims the Wests "slaughtered people regularly".

Ms Leach continued: “Fred told me there were another 20 bodies to be found after the 12, some in fields, the rest in the barn.

“Fred said some of the victims' bones were missing because it was a ritual thing and they did something with the fingers so there was no way of finding out who they were.”

Former employees of Fred West, Wendy and Derek Thomson, supported these claims made by Ms Leach as they have said West had "done something in Berkeley".

Episode one of the new series looking at Fred and Rose West saw investigators heading for the sights in which Mr and Mrs Thomson had highlighted as being a potential sight for the graves of victims.

Sir Trevor McDonald, host of the new show, believes that the police must search the entire area if they are to have any sign of hope to find the bodies of the victims, if there should be any.

Sir Trevor said: "There is still much more to the murderous campaign of Fred and Rose West.

"I think the option of not investigating these fields seems very strange.

"Surely, if there is any suspicion of evidence that there might be more bodies, it follows, as night follows day, that there must be an attempt to discover what happened to these missing people."
