Jen Psaki was grilled during a White House press briefing where a journalist demanded answers for why US reporters were not allowed to ask President Joe Biden questions when he met Boris Johnson in the Oval Office. The PM answered some questions from UK political editors before handlers began aggressively escorting reporters out of the room and shouting over them so they could not ask questions to the President. Ms Psaki strangely blamed the pandemonium in the Oval Office on Mr Johnson as she said he went off-script forcing staffers to intervene.

       Boris Johnson joined Joe Biden in the White House where reporters were invited to take photos of the meet.

       However, US journalists were denied the opportunity to ask questions to either man after handlers delivered strict rules and restrictions on the meet.

       The Sun's political editor Harry Cole attempted to ask Mr Biden a question about the UK/US free-trade deal but was told to direct the question towards Mr Johnson instead.

       White House staffers could then be heard yelling "thank you, let's go" before escorting journalists out of the room.

       Ms Psaki was confronted with the events during a briefing and was asked for her "understanding" of what happened.

       She told reporters: “I think our relationship with the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Johnson is so strong and abiding we will be able to move forward beyond this.

       “But he [Johnson] called on individuals from his press corps without alerting us to that intention in advance.”

       The press secretary was also asked if Mr Biden was worried about being overshadowed by Mr Johnson to which she replied: “I think the president has not spent a minute worrying about it.”

       White House Correspondents' Association President Steve Portnoy was at the meet on Tuesday and sent a formal complaint to Ms Psaki to address the issue.

       US journalists have only been given the chance to ask Mr Biden questions as he travels between events.

       During his visit to the United Nations, Mr Biden bluntly answered a question from a US reporter about the southern border crisis in America and said he was trying to get it "under control."

       Mr Biden also met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres ahead of his speech to the UN on Tuesday and discussed how the US and UN could work together to tackle COVID-19 and climate change.

       But again, handlers shooed reporters out of the room, telling them "let's go" and shouting over their questions by saying "thank you" repeatedly.

       Reporters demanded answers to the southern border crisis in the US which is seeing tens of thousands of migrants, mainly from Haiti, set up camps at the Texan border.

       Political commentators have begun to speculate Mr Biden is being protected from the media as the US President is prone to gaffes and is widely mocked when they happen.

       Politico reports some aides refuse to watch Mr Biden live because he goes off-script too much.
