Shared via their official Twitter and Instagram accounts, the images show six year old Charlotte gently cradling Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies.
Many fans compared the image of Charlotte with an image of the late Duke of Edinburgh when he was surrounded by monarch butterflies, commenting on their shared love for the insects and also saying “Prince Philip would be proud”.
Others compared her to other members of the Royal Family with one saying: “I believe Princess Charlotte is going to walk on the path to save our planet just like grandpa Charles. Absolutely adorable”.
A second said: “Beautiful Charlotte just like her grandmother… poise and love of wonderful things.”
Whilst another two referred to her likeness to Prince William with the comments “daddy’s twin” and “just like her father”.
Fans were quick to show their delight for the images, which were taken by the Duchess of Cambridge, stating: “This is everything we love about our beautiful ‘Cambridges’ - so natural; genuine care for the environment and gently inspiring us to be better.”
Others complimented the involvement of Charlotte in the scheme and the promotion of appreciating nature and helping signpost environmental issues like conservation, with one saying “Such a lovely photo of Charlotte, so important to encourage kids to get involved with nature”.
Another added: “Thank you for the beautiful pictures and for promoting the conservation of the natural world.”

The image of Charlotte, plus snaps of butterflies perched on purple buddleia bushes were shared as part of the Big Butterfly Count, which is currently going on across the country and is due to come to an end today.
The tweet reads: "We wanted to share these beautiful Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies as part of Big Butterfly Count initiative taking place across the UK.
Butterfly Conservation is encouraging us all to count these incredible creatures because not only are they beautiful creatures to be around but they are also extremely important."
The family also recently shared an adorable snap of Charlotte’s brother Prince George atop the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender to mark his eighth birthday.
The photograph, taken by the Duchess of Cambridge, was said to have been a nod to the late Prince Philip, who regularly drove Land Rovers and helped design the specially adapted defender which carried his coffin during his funeral earlier this year.
