Prince William was "looking at his parents" when offering advice to Prince Harry to slow down his relationship with Meghan Markle. The brothers had witnessed the dramatic fallout of Charles and Diana's relationship, who had married after only meeting on a handful occasions.

       Royal experts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito discussed the lesson Prince William had learnt, saying "I think you see what happened with Diana and Charles having only 13 dates before getting married and a lot of them had supervision and family members around, it wasn’t on their own."

       "I think a distinction is that Chalres and Diana’s wedding was a little pre-arranged in the sense that there was a lot of pressure for them to get married."

       "For Harry and Meghan that was the complete opposite, they found each other and fell in love."

       "I think a longer courtship is critical marrying into the Royal Family because you need to know what you’re signing up for."

       "Look at how many people Charles dated for a brief period of time and they were all like 'nope, I’m not signing up for this'".

       Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle following a 16-month courtship.

       A mutual friend had organised a blind date between the couple during the summer of 2016, and their engagement was announced by the Prince of Wales on Novemebr 27, 2017.

       Meghan Markle later revealed that prior to meeting the Royal Family, she had no understanding of royal protocol and was unaware that she needed to curtsey to the Queen.

       Rachel Bowie continued: "Meghan’s revelation in the Oprah interview about ‘wait, you do all these formalities at home when you’re not in public?’ – that was news to her, clearly there’s a lot to figure out."

       "With William, you have to remember that he went to university with Kate and they dated for 10 years and it was such a different romance."

       "It had a different trajectory and it’s because they are on different paths, William is going to be king one day, Harry is never going to be king."

       Prince Harry married the American actress on May 19, 2018 in a televised service at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

       After less than two years of royal service, the couple announced that they would stepping away from their roles as senior working royals and relocated to North America.

       During an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Sussexes said that media harrassment and a lack of support from the Royal Family had fuelled their desire to leave.

       Their departure has led Prince William and Kate to increase their public profiles and take on more responsibility.

       In contrast to the Sussexes whirlwind romance, the Duke of Cambridge had been in a long-term relationship with Kate for over eight years before proposing.

       The couple married in Westminster Abbey on April 19, 2011 and recently celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary.
