A two-car crash has brought one direction of the M5 near Bristol to a standstill today. The collision happened near Cribbs Causeway at around 11.30am. Full deadlock delays have lasted until 1.30pm. Conditions are now starting to ease up slightly.

       The two cars had crashed between junction 17 for Cribbs Causeway and junction 18 for the M48.

       Traffic on the motorway was initially held back to allow the cars to be cleared off the main carriageway.

       The cars were moved to the hard shoulder of the motorway.

       The two-car crash caused traffic deadlock for 10 miles.

       Journey times faced delays of more than 40 minutes because of the accident.

       Traffic and travel service Inrix at 1.45pm said: "M4 Prince Of Wales Bridge Eastbound exit slip road closed long delays, queueing traffic due to overturned lorry at J22 M49.

       "Congestion to J23 (M48 Interchange)."

       There were also lengthy delays towards the M5 as traffic was held back leading to the M49 southbound.
