Petrol has become the latest victim of UK-wide HGV shortages over the last month. A unique concoction of factors, including the pandemic, Brexit and panic buying, has left outlets struggling to replenish their supplies to meet demand. Thousands have said they have none left, and many more are close to empty.

       Most major UK suppliers have resolved to cap the amount of petrol their customers can buy.

       These include BP, Shell, Texaco and Esso stations, which run by Euro Garages (EG) Group.

       EG Group has imposed a ￡30 limit at all of its 367 fuel stops in the UK.

       Signs placed at their locations tell customers the "unprecedented demand" has forced them to introduce measures for non-HGV drivers.

       The rule applies to stations in each of the following locations:

       Texaco

       Shell

       BP

       Esso

       A spokesperson for the group said the decision would give customers the chance to get the petrol they need.

       They said the ￡30 limit would apply to all fuel grades, with no one but "HGV drivers and emergency services" exempt due to "their vital role".

       The limit would ultimately give customers a "fair chance" and allow sites to run as intended.

       Each EG group site remains open, and the spokesperson asked potential customers to "treat our colleagues, supply chain partners and customers with respect".

       EG Group isn't the only organisation currently noting significant disruption to their petrol supplies.

       The Petrol Retailers Association has identified thousands of outlets currently struggling to source fuel.

       Two-thirds of its nearly 5,500 strong membership have reported empty reserves.

       The remaining third are either "partly dry" and "running out soon".

       As the country continues to face a crisis, the Government has continued to deny shortage severity.

       Environment secretary George Eustace said the driver shortage was "not a huge problem" despite snaking queues.

       He said the trouble has come from panic buying - which is only one element of the larger picture.

       In reality, the pandemic has shuttered HGV driving tests, meaning haulage bosses have failed to replace the 14,000 EU drivers lost to Brexit last year.
