Meghan Markle slammed for 'distasteful' PR stunt with an agenda 'Bit rich from her!'

Royal expert Charlie Rae claimed that Meghan Markle's birthday 40x40 video came across as a PR move. While speaking on TalkRadio with Cristo Foufas, he argued it was "a bit rich" for Meghan to lecture people from her lavish mansion. Mr Foufas also claimed it came across distasteful as people are unable to shake the idea she and her husband Prince Harry are only doing it for their brand image.

Mr Rae said: "We have got this bizarre situation of her talking away and if you look through the window you have got Prince Harry juggling balls in the air.

"What is that all about? I don't understand."

Mr Foufas then questioned whether Meghan's intentions may come to do more harm than good.

Mr Rae replied: "It is about rich for someone who lives in an $11 million house, surrounded by very expensive items.

"It just goes to prove, you can take the girl out of the palace but can't take the palace out of the girl."

"The trouble with Meghan Markle is you just think there is just an agenda that she has behind the scenes.

"That is the way it comes across to me as well."

The TalkRadio host agreed that the video comes across with an agenda, despite its well-meaning intentions.

He said: "It does come across as a bit more PR rather than anything else.

"The problem is anything that they do now you view through the prism of wanting to improve their brand.

"I think that is where it becomes a little more distasteful."

Despite the criticism, Meghan has received praise from commentators and fans for her attempts to shed light on the difficulties of some women returning to work.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has argued Meghan had good ideas and had already had some success with this new project.

He told Express.co.uk: "Meghan’s 40th birthday video and statement on their website Archewell is linked to a good cause.

"As so many women around the world have lost or left their jobs during the pandemic she has asked 40 wealthy friends to give 40 minutes of mentorship to support women re-entering the workforce in the hope that they also inspire others to do so."

"It’s called the '40 x 40' project, seemingly based on Nelson Mandela Foundation’s project in 2009 which called for 67 minutes of helping others, linked to his 67-year fight against apartheid."

He continued: "There have been no photographs released of Lili yet but that is their choice.

"This is the sort of project which is imaginative and does help others, especially as so many women have also been involved in unpaid work such as caring and schooling during the pandemic.

"Several top names including Hillary Clinton and Princess Eugenie have signed up for this project.

"Meghan has excellent ideas for good causes and this birthday project proves it."
