Speaking to Good Morning Britain on Monday from Oslo, Kaisa Markhus explained the sheer horror she went through as Mr Farthing and his animals were turned away from Kabul airport following a change in evacuation rules by US President Joe Biden. She said "time was running out" after Mr Farthing was turned away as she then began to fear the worst. Ms Markhus then revealed how she was finally able to sleep after finding out Mr Farthing had touched down safely in Oslo and is safely in isolation.

She said: "He had a lot of work to do with all the animals, he got some really good help with military people on the ground to help with loading.

"It was a big, big job.

"It felt like the flight was not going to land... there had been a lot of delays

She added: ":He had an attempt to get in where he was actually inside the airport but then he was turned around because the rules changed."

Markhus added how despite the good news of Pen's safe evacuation, "she was not celebrating".

She said the Operation Ark mission "is still not over" and that there are "many" Nowzad staff that still need to be evacuated.

But she added that she is "finally able to sleep" knowing Pen is safe.

While Mr Farthing added: "Joe Biden change the rules! It was absolutely heartbreaking. Totally heartbreaking."

Despite his wife's comments, Mr Farthing went on to stress how no soldiers assisted in his evacuation of the airport.
