Prince Harry's Hollywood move sparked gloating in US: 'We won the revolution!'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have no regrets about quitting the Royal Family, an updated book has claimed. The couple controversially set up a new life in California, after stepping stepped back as senior royals last year. In extracts from Omid Scobie Carolyn Durand's book "Finding Freedom", which is published in this week's PEOPLE magazine, it's claimed: "As difficult as recent years have been, sources close to the Sussexes say that neither Harry nor Meghan have any regrets about the decisions they have made.

"What started as a fairytale romance became a story that reinvented the genre - a self-made, independent woman playing an equal role alongside her knight."

One question that hung over the Sussexes move to the US was how the country would receive them.

Culture writer for NBC News' opinion section, Patricia Grisafi, wrote in September 2020 that Harry and Meghan opted for the American style of life in a piece titled: "The Harry and Meghan Netflix deal proves Hollywood, and America, won the revolution."

Ms Grisafi added: "Hundreds of years after revolutionaries made the case for the supremacy of the American system and decades after Hollywood began to beam its influence farther and wider than the British Empire ever did, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex swapped life in the British royal family for a multiyear deal with Netflix.

"The couple are writing a new chapter in the age-old American story of reinvention and self-determination by announcing that they are rejecting the British monarchy for the stuff of American dreams."

The writer also said that, while Meghan endured widespread criticism in the UK, the Duchess of Sussex "had the last laugh" as she embarked on a more independent life.

She continued: "But in choosing to relocate to America, Meghan and Harry are saying it's more desirable to take a chance in America and be Hollywood producers than to remain in the British monarchy.

"Harry and Meghan are embracing the American lifestyle, with its opportunity to remake yourself as well as create content — not just be content. The fact is that Harry and Meghan are more in control of the royal story than anyone back in the UK."

Meghan has already announced one project she intends to undertake with Netflix, revealing last month that she will create a new animated series called "Pearl".

Archewell Productions, the company formed by Harry and Meghan, said in a statement that the programme will centre on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by a variety of influential women from history.

The series will be produced by Meghan, and she said in a statement that she is "thrilled that Archewell Productions...will bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history."

As part of their deal with Netflix, the couple planned to make documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.
