According to Estonian Prime Minister, Kaja Kallas, Brexit has provided a huge boost to the country. With the UK now out of the EU, British professionals have utilised the country's e-Residency programme to launch their companies. Due to the influx of British companies who have picked Estonia over other EU states since the referendum, Ms Kallas claimed the country had gained €51million (£42million) in tax.

She told City AM: "When the United Kingdom decided to leave the European Union, many British friends took up our e-residency services.

“It clearly increased after Brexit, even before actually, even when the vote happened, we saw a spike.”

“We have seen more than 4,000 British companies coming to Estonia."

In other news, Brexit minister Lord David Frost has issued a final ultimatum to the EU at a time where Maros Sefcovic has called on leaders in Northern Ireland to calm the rhetoric over the protocol.

His threat was supported by Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, leader of the DUP, who pledged to withdraw from the Stormont Assembly if the demands regarding the protocol are not met.

Amid the pressure to drop the Northern Ireland protocol, the vice-President of the EU Commission issued a panicked attempt to simmer down Brexit tensions.

In response to the DUP's threat, the EU official said: "I will see Sir Jeffrey this afternoon as I will see also the other political leaders.

"We will have the opportunity to discuss this face to face and my message will be 'let's work on the concrete problems'.

"Let's focus on the issues which are the most important for the people of Northern Ireland, let's be constructive, let's dial down the political rhetoric, let's bring calm and focus on what is our task to accomplish."

Under the country's e-Residency programme, UK entrepreneurs have chosen the state to start their companies.

In an interview with City AM, Kaja Kallas, Estonia’s prime minister claimed around 4,000 UK companies had chosen the state ahead of other European competitors.

12.16pm update: DUP reiterates threat over Brexit

Speaking on the BBC's Nolan Show, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson reiterated his desire to amend the Northern Ireland protocol.

He said: "I have been reasonable, I have given people time to take the action that I feel is necessary to remove this Irish Sea border.

"I have worked with the Government, I have engaged with the EU, I have put forward proposals and suggestions in terms of how we can address these issues.

"There reaches a point where, with the decision taken to extend the grace periods indefinitely, that it appears to me that this will be dragged out for months, if not years, and we simply can't afford that.

"The harm that is being done to our economy every day is not sustainable."

11.25am update: 'You'll destroy your country!' Top economist damning warning against joining EU and euro

Top economist Bill Mitchell warned non-EU countries against ever joining the Brussels bloc unless they wanted to be "destroyed" by Neo-liberal impositions.

Speaking at an event before the completion of Brexit negotiations, the professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, in Australia, warned joining the EU and the eurozone would "destroy" a country.

At the time, Mr Mitchell was warning off Scottish Remainers who hoped an independent Scotland could soon rejoin the EU.

He said: "You'll destroy your country if you join the EU. And you'll destroy it slightly quicker if you tie the euro.

"And I know this debate within progressives on 'the euro isn't the EU' - no, it's not.

10.31am update: Play by OUR rules! Lord Frost ordered to back down and bow to EU demands on Brexit row

Lord Frost has been ordered to stop wasting time and join the European Union in a compromise to end the row over Brexit trade rules in Northern Ireland.

In a speech at a Belfast university, European Commission vice-president Maros Sefcovic insisted the Brexit minister should drop his demands to renegotiate the hated protocol to avoid a hard border.

The top eurocrat suggested his British counterpart should spend less time trying to scrap the European Court of Justice’s role in the region and look instead at ending the disruption caused by the measures.

Mr Sefcovic appealed to Lord Frost to meet him in the middle ground to finally broker a solution that brings an end to the concerns surrounding the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The Slovak diplomat said: “I believe that our focus should be on those issues that matter the most to the people of Northern Ireland, and not on requests, such as removing the role of the European Court of Justice.”

9.25am update: Brexit anger as IKEA blames EU exit for supply problems in UK but not the Netherlands

Furniture giant IKEA blamed Brexit for shortages in UK stores, despite admitting missing products in its Dutch shops are due to "major logistical problems worldwide".

The Swedish company has reported supply problems at all 22 of its stores across Britain and Ireland.

These are affecting 10 percent of its stock, which equates to about 1,000 product lines.

A number of retailers have reported supply problems in recent weeks, with a shortage of lorry drivers getting much of the blame.

9am update: Michel Barnier throws EU under bus as he demands new referendum on 'legal sovereignty'

Michel Barnier shocked people in France and Brussels on Thursday as he called for a referendum on his country's "legal sovereignty" from the EU's courts.

The former EU Brexit negotiator said France should "no longer be subject to the rulings of the CJEU or the ECHR" in an unexpected blow to Brussels.

Speaking at a debate with right-wing parties for the party primaries in the city of N?mes to mark the start of the new parliamentary year, Mr Barnier also called for "rebuilding French influence" in the face of Germany's "domination" in the EU.

The French Presidential candidate explained that regaining national sovereignty from EU courts would allow France to decide on its own immigration law.

The comments sparked outrage in France and across the bloc.

Emmanuel Macron's closest ally, Clement Beaune said: “One wonders how a sentence like that can come from such a committed European."

8.14am update: 'Could not make it up!' Farage savages Barnier's Eurosceptic bid for French President

Nigel Farage called out Michel Barnier, ex-EU chief negotiator, for standing on a populist and Eurosceptic ticket in the 2022 French Presidential Election.

Nigel Farage, 57, savaged Michel Barnier, 70, during his slot on GB News on Thursday.

The former Brexit Party and UKIP leader claimed Monsieur Barnier's commitment to restore French sovereignty flew in the face of his attempts to subvert the referendum result as the EU's chief negotiator.

Barnier, who rose to the political fore after organising the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, shocked his Brussels bloc colleagues by advocating for France to take back control of its laws and borders.

During Mr Farage's GB News show, the prominent Brexit campaigner spoke frankly about his relationship with Barnier.

“I've always said that Michel Barnier was unfailingly polite but very haughty,” he said.

“I had many conversations with him in his office, in the coffee room, debates in the parliamentary chamber.”

He said: "We will have the opportunity to discuss this face to face and my message will be 'let's work on the concrete problems'.

"Let's focus on the issues which are the most important for the people of Northern Ireland, let's be constructive, let's dial down the political rhetoric, let's bring calm and focus on what is our task to accomplish."
