       2. Sabina Nessa: murdered teacher’s attacker struck moments from her doorstep

       Sabina Nessa, the primary school teacher murdered in south London at the weekend, was attacked moments after leaving her flat by a man wielding an object, The Telegraph can reveal.

       3. Alarm as petrol stations begin rationing fuel

       Motorists were warned on Thursday night of shortages at fuel forecourts as BP announced it was closing pumps and rationing petrol and diesel because of a lack of lorry drivers.

       BP said it was cutting deliveries at 90 per cent of its petrol stations in an attempt to ration the fuel it has in reserve. ExxonMobil, the oil firm behind Esso, said that forecourts it operates at some Tesco supermarkets had also been affected. Read the full story.

       4. 'Swiss army knife' of military ships gives Royal Navy new cutting edge

       The Royal Navy is to deploy the "Swiss army knife" of military ships, which can change roles to keep the enemy guessing.

       The first batch of steel was cut on Thursday for HMS Venturer, the inaugural vessel of the Royal Navy’s new Type 31 frigates, designed to be multi-purpose ships. Read the full story.

       5. MoD pays compensation for 300 Afghan civilian deaths, including children as young as three

       The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has paid out compensation in relation to 300 Afghan civilian deaths British forces are linked to, new data has shown.

       According to figures kept in official MoD compensation logs, the youngest recorded civilian victim was three years old. In another incident, a family was awarded £4,233.60 following the death of four children who were mistakenly “shot and killed” in an incident in December 2009. Read the full story.
