Wife Beth and neighbours made frantic attempts to save him but he could not be -resuscitated. He died of “crush injuries to the chest”.

Mrs Rees, a former Denbighshire county councillor, said: “I have lost my wonderful husband and soulmate of 53 years.

“I tried desperately to save him but to no avail.

“I couldn’t have wished to have had a better man with whom to share my life.”

Tony had told Beth that he “wanted to get the job done” when she asked for the cooker to be moved, an inquest heard.

The horrific accident happened on June 8 at the family farm in Llanbedr-Dyffryn-Clwyd, North Wales, where they raised prized Welsh Black cows.

“My grandchildren will be planting an oak tree to mark grandad’s spot. I’m overwhelmed and deeply touched by all the messages, cards and -letters I have received.”

North East Wales coroner John Gittins adjourned the hearing to a later date.
