       KUWAIT CITY, July 15: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah on Wednesday sent letters of condolences to the families of ten Kuwaitis, who died in the 1990 Iraqi invasion. His Highness the Amir recognized the martyrs’ heroic sacrifices made in the name of their country, praying for solace for their families. His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al- Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables.

       Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim also sent letters of condolences to the families of the 10 Kuwaitis, after their remains were received from Iraqi authorities. The ten Kuwaitis were prisoners of war during the Iraqi invasion of 1990. They were laid to rest at a military funeral in their honour in Kuwait. The parliament chief recalled the heroism of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their nation’s freedom. Crowds of mourners attended the proceedings, including government ministers and leading officials in the country. The remains of the ten Kuwaiti men, who lost their lives in the Iraqi invasion of 1990, were laid to rest at a military funeral in their honour after they were received from the Iraqi government on Wednesday.

       Crowds of mourners, including Interior Minister Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al- Salem Al-Sabah, attended the proceedings, offering their condolences to the families of the deceased and praising their heroism, courage and valour. They hailed the martyrs for having sacrificed their lives for their country and having set a great example of patriotism. The deceased individuals’ names were earlier announced by Kuwaiti authorities between November 2020 and March 2021 after their genetic profiles were identified by Interior Ministry officials, Foreign Ministry Prisoners and Missing Persons Affairs Committee Director Rabea Al-Adsani said. They had been prisoners of war in Iraq, apprehended during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, Al-Adsani explained. The Kuwaiti official went on to thank Iraqi authorities, the Tripartite and Technical Subcommittees, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for their contributions which led to determining the fate of the missing Kuwaitis.
