KUWAIT CITY, Sept 23: The Chairman of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Muhammad Al-Saqr has asked His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, to cancel the decision of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) Board of Directors to make expatriates pay huge amount of money to renew their work permits – expatriates who are over sixty years of age and do not hold graduation certificates, reports Al-Rai daily quoting responsible sources. The same sources stated Al-Saqr in his letter to Al-Khaled said this decision will lead to displacing of skilled workers from Kuwait and will have significant negative effect on the economy and called on the government to cancel it.

The sources revealed there is disagreement in views between the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and PAM Chairman Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman, and the Director-General of the Authority, Ahmed Al-Mousa, regarding the decision concerning the ‘60s’ saying Salman was seeking until recently to convince Al-Mousa to change his position on and accept the 500 dinars fee he has proposed instead of 2,000 dinars but Al-Mousa seems to be sticking to his decision.

The minister tried to convince Al-Mousa to agree amicably to hold a meeting of the board of directors to approve the amendment proposed by him proposal, which winked from a channel that his orientation in this regard reflects the government’s desire, except the failure to reach an agreement in this regard prompted Al-Salman not to call for a meeting of the council, which will not change the result of his predecessor, who imposed a fee of 2000 dinars, pointing out that “the minister will raise his position with the Council of Ministers, to take what he deems appropriate in this regard.”
