KUWAIT CITY, Sept 23: With the reopening of schools for the new scholastic year, there is big demand for stationery, school bags and other supplies after more than a-year-and a- half since, reports Al- Anba daily. Although the cooperative societies and popular markets are filled with children’s school needs, parents complain of high cost. They say the price is much higher than what it was during the pre- Corona period. This, they say, is clear exploitation in light of the difficult conditions that everyone lives in.

The daily interviewed some of the parents who say they are happy about the imminent return to schools but complained about the high prices and lack of control saying there is a big discrepancy in prices. “We ask the Ministry of Commerce to monitor these prices because they are very high, especially at a number of coops, supermarkets and shops selling stationery. This has put an added burden on the families,” they say. Others said the prices of stationery, bags and school items at popular markets are more reasonable than in other places and even cooperative societies. They claim some merchants are taking advantage of the situation, perhaps to compensate for their losses during the Corona crisis, and for families who have more than one child, the situation is very difficult, and for this “we demand greater control over prices in everything, not only in school supplies.”
