Speaking to Wales Online, his mum Amanda said she received the devastating call about his crash just before he passed away.
"Somebody saw part of the vehicle on the highway and stopped and spoke to him," she said.
"[The person] asked if he was okay and he put his thumb up and then he slipped away."
The heartbroken mum said that Anthony had been working extremely hard and that he'd been up at 5am for work and would only be on his way home at 8pm.
Amanda also revealed that the night before the fatal crash, Anthony had a conversation with his fiancee about the possibility that they were expecting a new baby.
Heartbreakingly the pregnancy was only confirmed after Anthony had passed away.

But before the crash, Anthony had been working on building a future for his family.
"He was starting his own business," Amanda said.
"He had snowplough machines and would plough everybody out when they were snowed in.
"He was building it up, then Covid hit so he wasn't doing it on a big scale.
"He was planning to be entirely self-employed so he would then be able to stay at home with his family - which is what he wanted."
The dad-of-two had moved to Canada in 2012 after visiting the country on a holiday.
It was there he met the love of his life, his mum Amanda told Wales Online.
Anthony was hoping to gain Canadian citizenship this Christmas and to marry the mother of his two kids - Chelsea.
Anthony's sister has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for funeral costs and flights to Canada for the family who are based in Caerphilly.
