It is believed they arrived at around 11 am today at the junction of St Mark's Road and Brenner Street.

It is thought an attempted eviction from one of the properties in the vicinity has been ongoing.

The landlord of the property and police officers are currently inside the building.

Tensions are rising and there are a number of people on the streets supporting the tenants.

The situation escalated after tenants of the building climbed onto the roof of the property.

A reporter at the scene has been told by one of the tenants that the landlord entered the property with a security firm at 4am to change the locks and evict them.

The tenant said they are in contact with the council and the police, adding the landlord has no right to stop them using the building.

He claimed they were provided with documents that were two years out of date.

“They are trying to evict us, but it is illegal,” he said.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We attended this morning to prevent a breach of the peace with respect a civil eviction that was being attempted in St Marks Road.

"Officers are no longer on the scene."
