KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir has been appointed as managing director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd with effect from July 16.
The sovereign wealth fund said on Tuesday he takes over from Datuk Shahril Ridzuan who will be departing to pursue his personal interests upon the expiry of his contract with Khazanah.
“The board of directors would like to welcome Amirul and is confident that with his expertise and experience, Khazanah will progress further in delivering on its mandate.
“The board thanks Shahril for his service and contribution throughout his tenure as managing director, particularly for his leadership in successfully implementing a strategy that has made Khazanah more resilient and capable of navigating challenges posed by the pandemic, ” it said in the statement.
Amirul, 51, was group chief financial officer of Malayan Banking Bhd, having been appointed to the position on July 1, 2016.
He joined Maybank as group head, global banking in 2014. Prior to Maybank, he was group MD of Chemical Company of Malaysia Bhd (CCM) from 2010 to 2014, where he was responsible for the restructuring and transformation of the public listed company’s business.
Amirul was previously executive vice president, special projects at Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) in 2010, and managing director, head of investment banking at Maybank Investment Bank Bhd from 2008 to 2010, where he was responsible for the investment banking, corporate finance, equity capital markets and venture capital divisions.
He has also served as executive director at Binafikir Sdn Bhd, as well as in various management capacities at Citigroup Global Markets (Asia) Ltd, Salomon Smith Barney, Schroders, and KPMG.
Amirul is a chartered banker, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Accounting and Finance) from the London School of Economics.
