KUALA LUMPUR: House break-in cases have showed a reduction of 21.2% between March 18 and June 27 this year compared with the same period previously.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said a total of 16,452 cases were recorded compared with 20,875 last year.

"It is a reduction of 4,423 cases. The reduction is due to the movement control order imposed during that period, which saw more patrols conducted by the police and other enforcement agencies.

"However, during the conditional MCO from May to June 10 last year, a total of 1,167 house break-ins were recorded compared with 1,063 cases prior to the conditional MCO," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 29).

Comm Abd Jalil said a total of 5,518 individuals were detained for house break-ins between March 18 and June 27, 2021.

"Among those detained were 3,572 jobless individuals.

"We urge society to work with us in curbing crimes in their respective communities.

"The public must always stay vigilant and lock their homes properly. Safety is paramount," he said.
