SERDANG: Some 20.4kg of syabu worth RM720,000 was seized following an operation in Bandar Puteri Puchong last Wednesday (June 23).
An 18-year-old male was also arrested as he was in the midst of arranging to send the box of drugs at a courier premises at about 4.30pm last Wednesday.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm AA Anbalagan said the suspect had hidden the drugs beneath several T-shirts in the box.
"We believe he was arranging to send the drugs to Kota Kinabalu via courier.
"However, he had put a false address in Kota Kinabalu to evade detection.
"When the parcel arrived in Kota Kinabalu, the courier company would call the receiver for the correct address as per the company standard operating procedures as the initial address would not be found," he told a press conference at the Serdang police headquarters Tuesday (June 29).
The suspect has since been remanded until Wednesday (June 30) for further investigations, he added.
"We believe the suspect was hired by the syndicate to arrange the shipment for the drugs.
"We believe the syndicate has been active for about five months.
"The suspect is paid about RM1,000 per delivery," he said.
ACP Anbalagan said police will uncover the extent of the syndicate, including its network in Kota Kinabalu.
"The drugs seized could have been supplied to 20,000 addicts," he added.
The source of the drugs is also currently being investigated, ACP Anbalagan said.
"We are exploring various possibilities but we believe the drugs were procured in the Klang Valley," he said.
He also urged those with information on any criminal activities, especially drug-related, to contact the police.
"We need the help of the public to beat the drug menace.
"We are committed towards total enforcement against drug syndicates," he said.
