PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has recorded 6,437 new coronavirus infections, with a surge in cases seen in the Klang Valley.
This brings the country’s cumulative total of Covid-19 cases to 745,703.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday (June 29), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported that Selangor has 2,299 new cases, the highest out of all states.
Kuala Lumpur has the second highest with 1,361 new cases.
This is followed by Negri Sembilan (700 cases), Kedah (284), Johor (271), Melaka (252), Pahang (250), Sarawak (242), Perak (184), Sabah (178), Kelantan (131), Labuan (117), Penang (115), Putrajaya (32) and Terengganu (21).
Perlis has zero new cases.
The ministry also reported 107 more Covid-19 fatalities, taking the country’s death toll to 5,108.
Currently, 905 patients are being treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 455 on ventilator support.
In the same 24-hour span, 5,298 patients were discharged from treatment.
This means 677,751 people have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the pandemic began.
The country now has 62 844 active Covid-19 cases.
