MELAKA: Vaccination for hospitality and tourism players will be considered under the third phase of the National Recovery Plan, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said the current focus was on getting those in the manufacturing sector vaccinated.
“Melaka Chief Minister (Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali) has shown concern towards restarting the tourism industry.
“I have pledged to look into the vaccination programme for this group in the third phase, ” Khairy said after attending the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force meeting at Seri Negeri here yesterday.
He noted that Melaka had received 200, 000 vaccine doses since February and that the volume would increase to 368, 000 doses in July.
He said with the increase, the capacity of inoculation would gradually reach 13, 000 doses a day compared to an average daily dose of 7, 000 currently.
He said the rapid vaccinations would also be complemented with the opening of more mega private hospitals’ vaccination centres (PPV) and general practitioners’ PPV.
“We also hope that the vaccinations for factory workers will be expedited with the opening of industrial PPV, ” Khairy added.
He said among the PPVs to be opened in Melaka in July were Yayasan Toh Puan Zarina, a drive-through PPV at the Melaka International Airport, three private hospitals and 36 health clinics, all of which would increase vaccination capacity to 13, 000 doses a day compared to the 7, 000 doses a day currently.
