Actor and singer Jack Tan (pic) said he is still a Malaysian after rumours circulated he has given up his citizenship, reported China Press.
The 30-year-old recently obtained a Resident Certificate from Taiwan after having stayed there for work since December 2020, and posted the news on his Instagram.
However, some fans misunderstood the post and thought he had given up his Malaysian citizenship.
“‘Given up’ is too strong a phrase. Please remember that having a Resident Permit does not equate to citizenship,” he later wrote on Instagram.
Tan is best known for his role in Shuttle Life in 2017 which won him three Best Actor awards: at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival’s Asian New Talent competition; 12th Chinese Young Generation Film Forum Awards which was held in Wuhan; and the inaugural Asean-China Film Festival in Putrajaya.
> A school in China that was built using donations collected by Hong Kong actor Louis Koo following the 2008 Great Sichuan earthquake was found to have been left abandoned, reported China Press.
Photos of the school in Guizhou showed that the building was in a dilapidated state, with overgrown grass and dirty walls following years of neglect.
Known as the Hong Guang Louis Koo Primary School, it had cost 180,000 yuan (RM115,726) to build but was reportedly closed down four years ago.
When construction was completed in 2009, many of the locals praised Koo for his generosity.
However, many of these families gradually moved to cities, leaving the village school empty.
It was reported that the Louis Koo Charitable Foundation had built over 135 schools and 18 medical clinics in China in the past decade.
