PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister has remained in contact with his ministers about work while he is in hospital receiving treatment for an infection, says the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

It said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was being treated for an infection to his digestive system, adding that there was no recurring tumour.

It also said that he was being administered intravenous antibiotics for the infection and would be discharged from hospital in a few days.

“The Prime Minister was warded on June 30 and is still receiving treatment for an infection to his digestive system.

“After an intensive health check-up, there is no proof that there is a recurrence of his old tumour.

“On his doctors’ advice, he is still in hospital to continue receiving intravenous antibiotics. He is now stable and recovering, and is allowed to continue with his duties while receiving treatment,” the PMO said in a statement yesterday.

“The Prime Minister thanked everyone who continue to pray for his health,” it added.

On June 30, the PMO said that Muhyiddin had been admitted to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur for treatment and observation after suffering from diarrhoea the day before.

Muhyiddin is a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018.

Several ministers said the Prime Minister had been in constant communication with them since he was hospitalised, through calls and text messages.

Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said he last texted Muhyiddin yesterday.

“I have been communicating with the Prime Minister over the matters of the nation, especially on the current economic situation.

“He has informed me that he is recuperating well and on the road to recovery, and will be discharged soon. We pray for his speedy recovery,” Azmin said when contacted.

Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said he too had been constantly in contact with Muhyiddin.

“He is fine and responding well to treatment,” said the Health Minister.

Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Muhyiddin had texted him yesterday to say that he was fine and recovering.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Ulama Association president Datuk Sheikh Abdul Halim Abdul Kadir said the association wished him well.

“Our association prays for the health of the Prime Minister who is currently hospitalised.

“May he recover and return to his duties to lead the country,” said Abdul Halim in a statement yesterday.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in a Facebook post, also wished Muhyiddin a speedy recovery.

“May you get well and recover soon,” he wrote.
