PETALING JAYA: Nearly half of the 107 Covid-19 deaths reported on Saturday (July 3) are from Selangor, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur also accounted for more than half of the country's 6,658 new cases on Saturday, with 3,047 and 616 Covid-19 infections respectively, he said in a statement.

"There were 107 cases of Covid-19 deaths involving 51 cases in Selangor, 21 in Kuala Lumpur, 11 in Negri Sembilan, six in Johor, five each in Kedah and Pahang, four in Melaka, and one each in Sabah, Sarawak, Perak and Labuan," he said.

From the deaths, 18 people had no recorded history of prior medical conditions.

Of the new cases, 11 were imported cases while 6,647 were local infections. The number of active cases is now 66,958. Malaysia's cumulative total of Covid-19 cases is 772,607.

The country's death toll stands at 5,434.

It also said there were 5,677 recoveries for a total of 700,215 to date.

Of the active cases, 892 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 443 requiring ventilator support.

Only one other state reported more than 500 cases on Saturday – Negri Sembilan, with 699 new infections.

Three states reported less than 100 new cases, with Terengganu recording 51, Putrajaya (16) and Perlis (two).

Nineteen new Covid-19 clusters were also reported, bringing the total number of active clusters to 871.

The new clusters were from workplaces (16), communities (two), and a detention centre (one).
