SUBANG JAYA: A 46-year-old man died after he was electrocuted during an attempt to steal power cables from a substation in Batu 3, Shah Alam.
Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Abd Khalid Othman said a Tenaga Nasional Bhd engineer went to the site for an inspection following reports of a service disruption at the substation located at a factory in Shah Alam at about 2.47pm Monday (July 12).
"Technicians found the suspect, who had broken into the substation and damaged one of the switches.
"The suspect was still alive at that time, but had burns all over his body. He was then sent to Hospital Shah Alam for treatment," he said when contacted Tuesday (July 13).
The suspect succumbed to his injuries at about 8.55pm Monday after suffering second degree burns over 60% of his body, ACP Abd Khalid added.
"The suspect also tested positive for Covid-19, and has a criminal record with eight previous offences," he said, adding that losses suffered due to the break-in were about RM60,000.
"We urge the people to stay vigilant against any possible crime in their respective areas.
