YONG PENG: About 107,000 public transport frontline workers are expected to receive at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by the end of next month, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       The Transport Minister said this involves those in the aviation, maritime and land transport industries that have received and would be receiving their inoculation at their respective vaccination centres such as port depot and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

       He said since June 24, some 55,000 vaccinations have been given to the frontliners in the maritime, aviation and land transport industries (including rail and bus).

       “The remaining of some 60,000 will be done as soon as possible in the second phase, by the end of August,” he told a press conference after visiting the Yong Peng vaccination centre (PPV) here on Sunday (July 18).

       Dr Wee added that the total, however, does not include taxi drivers and e-hailing drivers.

       “This group of individuals will be receiving their vaccination at PPVs in the community to give more convenience to them, as there is no need to group them all together in one location in order to receive their jabs,” he said.

       He added that the name list of taxi drivers and e-hailing drivers available to his ministry has been submitted to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) for further action.
