PETALING JAYA: Up to 98% of the 1,781 new Covid-19 cases detected in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya detected on Saturday (July 17) were in Category 1 (asymptomatic) and 2 (mild symptoms).

The Federal Territories Covid-19 Coordination and Management Centre (CCMC) said there were 789 cases (44.5%) who did now show any symptoms and 954 cases (53.3%) with mild symptoms.

Category 3 (pneumonia) and Category 4 (pneumonia and require oxygen therapy) made up only 2% of all cases with 23 and 14 instances respectively.

"The number of close contacts and sporadic cases also decreased slightly compared to Friday (July 16).

"Close contacts recorded 743 cases (42%) while there were 443 (25%) sporadic infections," it said in a statement on Sunday (July 18).

CCMC added that out of the 1,781 new infections, some 65% were citizens while 35% were foreigners.

It also noted that three active clusters at construction sites contributed to 24% of cases.

These sites are Serene Mont Kiara (12 cases), Residensi Laman Sari in Batu (141) and Maple Residence in Taman OUG (270).

Residensi Laman Sari and Maple Residence are new clusters.

There were 11 community clusters, which recorded a total of 97 cases on Saturday (July 17).

The centre also urged the elderly who have yet to receive vaccination appointments via MySejahtera to walk-in at any vaccination centre in the Federal Territories.

"Other residents who have yet to get an appointment can get one via the Vaksinasi Prihatin programme at Rumah Prihatin @ Grand Seasons by calling 011-7074 2318," it said.
