PETALING JAYA: There has been a decline in the number of hospital admissions for severe Covid-19 symptoms among the elderly, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The Health director-general said the effect of increased vaccination rates could be seen in the reduction of severe Covid-19 cases.
"Phase two of the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for involving the elderly and vulnerable have started showing signs of effectiveness.
"There is a decrease in serious infections (Categories 4 and 5), as well as a decrease in hospital admissions among the elderly," he said in a tweet on Tuesday (July 20).
He shared a graph showing that the number of admissions of those aged 60 to 79 years old, which showed a sharp decline after epidemiological week 21 (May 23 to 29).
The graph, however, shows that there was an increase in admissions among those aged 20 to 39 years old.
