Over 13,000 new Covid-19 cases and 134 deaths reported

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has recorded 13,034 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the nation’s cumulative total to 964,918.Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were also 8,436 recoveries, bringing the nationwide total to 815,293.

       A total of 134 fatalities were also recorded, bringing the death toll to 7,574.

       “There are 938 patients in intensive care units, with 459 requiring ventilation support,” he said in a statement yesterday.

       He added that Selangor recorded the highest number of Covid-19 infections with 6,049 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,611), Johor (791) and Negri Sembilan (711).

       “Thirty-two new clusters have been reported, bringing the number of active clusters to 946.

       “Twenty-one of the new clusters are workplace clusters while seven are community clusters, two are education institute clusters and the remaining two are high-risk group clusters,” Dr Noor Hisham said, adding that the number of active Covid-19 cases were 142,051.

       He said that of the 13,034 cases recorded yesterday, 13 were category five (critical and in need of respiratory aid), 72 belonged to category four (pneumonia and in need of oxygen), 124 were category three (pneumonia), 5,646 were category two (mild symptoms) and 7,179 were category one (asymptomatic).

       “Of the 134 deaths recorded today, 39 were in Selangor, followed by Kuala Lumpur (32), Negri Sembilan (18), Johor (15), Perak (seven), Melaka (seven), Pahang (five), Kedah (four), Penang (two), Terengganu (two), Labuan (two) and one case in Sabah,” he said.
