PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is expected to tender her resignation as Deputy Speaker later on Wednesday (Aug 4), according to a Sinar Harian report.
The Malay daily quoted sources, saying that the Pengerang MP will tender her resignation later Wednesday afternoon.
Azalina was among the 11 Umno MPs to sign statutory declarations (SDs) retracting support for the Perikatan Nasional government and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah was the first Umno MP to resign as Energy and Natural Resources Minister, and sources have indicated that more resignations could unfold soon.
Just moments after Dr Shamsul announced his resignation in a press statement, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dropped a bombshell as he revealed that 11 Umno MPs have signed SDs and they were presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in an undisclosed audience.
On Tuesday (Aug 3) evening, it was reported that ministers began gathering at Muhyiddin's residence in Bukit Damansara, while another late night meeting involving Perikatan-friendly Umno MPs meeting at Seri Pacific Hotel, next to WTC KL, which is also Umno's headquarters.
