PUTRAJAYA: Another 212 more people in Malaysia have succumbed to Covid-19, says the Health Ministry.
This brings Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to 10,961.
In his daily statement on Monday (Aug 9), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said 186 of the casualties were Malaysians and 26 were foreign nationals.
There are 16 brought-in-dead (BID) cases, of which 14 are Malaysians and two foreigners.
Of the death cases, some 170 (80%) were people with some form of comorbidity.
Selangor had the most deaths with 76 fatalities.
This was followed by Johor (24 deaths), Kedah (20), Kuala Lumpur (18), Pahang (16), Negri Sembilan (14), Penang (12), Sabah (11), Melaka (eight), Terengganu (five), Kelantan (four), Perak (two), Perlis (one) and Sarawak (one).
On Monday, Malaysia recorded 17,236 new Covid-19 cases.
Some 97.8% (16,864 cases) are mild and asymptomatic cases.
Another 2.2% (372 cases) are those in Categories 3, 4 and 5.
Of Monday’s total cases, 73.6% involved unvaccinated people.
Currently, there are 227,230 active Covid-19 cases nationwide.
This includes 1,095 patients in intensive care units and 579 who were on ventilator support.
Another 15,187 patients were discharged from treatment in the same period.
So far, 1,041,585 people in Malaysia (81% of all cases) have recovered from Covid-19.
